I bought the ???Mate (the one before the current EarthMate, somehow I misplaced the GPS receiver after long time of not using it). The problem is that the DeLoreme GPS receiver automatically shuts down whenever the notebook goes into power-save mode. That makes realize that I need a receiver with its own screens and the ability to stay on. GPS receiver can take a few minutes to sync up, whereas the notebook computer can come back within seconds. IIRC, Magellan sells the MapSend software seperately from the GPS receiver, and the map cost quite a lot of money.
