...you have the 9 spkr setup with the higher rated amp, correct ??
... I also assume that you set the startup vol to "24" (comes set at "9" as a default) ?? If not.. do this before you even think about replacing other components...otherwise you're throwing money away.
If your still not happy after this, then definitely consider speakers first and foremost. While %THD distortion of an amp is a consideration, it's usually not as important as one would think. THD is harmonic distortion, and the human ear is very tolerable of this type of distortion. If the %IM distortion, on the other hand, was high, then I would be concerned (not sure what its rated at for this amp). With amps, the ability to deliver high current (not wattage) is usually most important, and i think the HK amp does a decent job.
As far as your speakers go.. what to upgrade would depend on what you perceive the problem to be.. The dash speakers would be the first I'd replace if you thought the sound lacked a crispness. However, if overall clarity was a concern, then I would consider the front and rear door drivers.. The rear doors are undersized and probably the weakest link.
This system is really geared towards accurately reproducing classical music.. That is the sound is very nuetral and accurate rather than high end (i.e. treble ) biased. So modern/pop/rock recordings may seem to lack that sizzle/cripness that some folks prefer. A Bose system, on the other hand seems to cater better to lovers of pop/jazz/rock.. It's all what you prefer...
