Thanks, DW. And you won't need to understand given I've adopted your advice plus the other valuable inputs received. Thanks to all! I will use in particular the two latest inputs -- yours and Jeremy R.'s -- for a plan going forward. As noted elsewhere, I got myself into this situation by being overly fanatical about finding the strongest breaker bar. At 64 years old and driving since 1970 -- my first SAAB a 99 LE coming in 1976 -- I go back to those ancient times when serious tools were made of "black iron." So combing through today's array of alloys made me a bit crazy.
As to those who can't understand how lugs said to have been torqued to the 9-5 Aero specification of 100 could possibly have become so tight, I too am dumbfounded. Though what I haven't shared is the reason I need to get this tire off is it went flat. I was able to make the short distance home but when I jumped out and checked tire pressure it was down to 8 PSI. However, those with a reputation for understanding such things suggest that situation would not have caused the lugs to tighten.
In any event and particularly by being in western Pennsylvania I have taken note of all the suggestions ranging from "small dab of anti-seize on the threads, " multiple lug sets, and checking lug tightness after shop work. As to shop work, I stick only to myself or my trusted SAAB tech after Monro over torqued and ruined two front rotors. My bad. I didn't want to give my SAAB tech the lowly task of installing my new Tire Rack tires and paid dearly for it. Though I'll be seeking compensation from Monro since I still have time under Pennsylvania small claims limitations statutes.
