replace REAR brake pads, 2003 Aero and 9-5's
I installed Front EBC pads at 160 miles, see that post.
I noticed that the rear rotors woth stock pads were forming a visable lip and the front ones were not. So at 7500 miles I put EBC pads in the rear.
See the link. This is the only source that I know of with these pads. If you get them you will see a freaky sticker about year prior to some old date. Ignore that!
These install just like the fronts. So see the other post for details there too.
Tools:
A #30 trox bit, a 7mm allen key. Many metric hex hey sets do not have 7mm. So look first and look when you purchase. Anti sieze compound.
Remove the road wheel, parking brake set. If you have not done before, remove the screw that locks the rotor to the hub. Put lots of antisieze on the threads and under the head and put it back. Just tight enough that it is not loose. It will not go anywhere and is not loaded when in service.
Remove the wire spring from the outside of the caliper. Only do one side at a time so that you can see how it goes.
Remove the two weather caps and back out the two guide bolts with the 7mm hex. You do not need to remove them from the caliper. Pull the caliper off and do like the fronts.
Push the retained sliders in to expose their threads and anitsieze those, and the end face. That end can rust.
There is little room for the 7mm key. A bit in a wrench would work well.
Over all an easy job.
Make sure that there is antisieze on the hub. And a light film on the contact face of the allow wheels to prevent rust welding there.
Geting the wire ratainer back on is a black art!
