My only hard rule is run a batch of neutral oil (20W or 30W compressor oil, from hardware store .... it's non-detergent) if switching from one synthetic to another. I ran this for a week or 2, light load, no long trips, and was surprised how well it shifted with 20W oil, and was glad when the neo shifted as well.
Neutral batch is optional with other oils. I also purged some oil thru the primary case inspection cover ... not sure all years have one. This required a 2-3 inch length of very thin wall 3/4 inch metal tubing, that I flattened to about 1/8 inch at one end, careful not to pinch closed. This and a funnel allowed me to get oil into the narrow opening there.
primary case traps 1/3 Q that does not drain out.
