Re-reading your posts it does sound like you have a bad pump there. I personally don't know of a way to unscrew the pump retaining ring without a special tool but someone will probably have that info. It's just a big giant metal fork. If you have a vice and a chunk of steel you can easily make one. I find that hosing down the lock ring with some WD40 loosens any dirt and grime and helps it unscrew. The correct way to replace the pump is through the hole in the floor pan. Good luck
