1-barb vs. 3-barb pump insert?

Okay, so eeuro has two pump inserts listed for my car (1990 900 SPG), each with a different id number and technical note:
*** 1 barb, 8 mm outlet*** Use FH8 fuel hose with this pump.
from http://www.eeuroparts.com/Main/PartDetail.aspx?id=8980039
or
*****3 barb, 6mm outlet***** Check against p/n 8980039 (1 barb, 8 mm outlet) before ordering. Use FH 6 fuel line with this pump.
from http://www.eeuroparts.com/Main/PartDetail.aspx?id=4161493
I don't understand what the difference is? Or rather, it appears that one has a brass fitting with a single barb, the other a fitting with 3 barbs--but how do I know which one I should be ordering? Ought I to take out the pump assembly and disassemble it to see what is there already? If that's the case, are there any special things I should do if I'm going to be leaving the assembly out of the car for several days until the new insert comes? I am concerned about covering the exposed gas somehow to avoid vapors leaking out, etc. Also, what about fittings that have swollen unswelling?
Speaking of which, if I buy the pump insert, is there anything else I should be buying at the same time to make sure I have everything I need? I'm thinking clamps or connectors or fuel hose, etc?
Does anyone know of a write-up on how to do the pump insert? I've tried searching but can only find bits and pieces
Thank you!
Sky
