When you look at car operating costs, especially on 9Ks--which we all know have "issues"-- it's interesting to separate out the normal stuff any car will need (tires, brakes, exhausts, serp belts, plugs, filters, etc.) from the 9K stuff--motor mounts, heater cores, blower motors, DIs, etc. The total amount is still there, but the 9K stuff is what we are all willing to pay to drive these beasts. And there is minor stuff, too. Most of us run synthetic oil, which increases the cost of oil changes. Plus are we as a group more compulsive about maintenance than people driving Toyotas or Impalas? Don't know.
Plus, most of us have cars with over 100K miles on them, and most cars are needing stuff at that point. I'd be interested in seeing what ownership costs are like for C and E class Mercedes and 3 and 5 series Bimmers with 100K+ miles.
9000s are definitely more expensive to own than a lot of other cars, but I think you have to look at the added cost of running a 9K and decide whether it's worth it. It is to me.
