thanks for your post. In fact my mechanic does have a tech2, he doesn't have a breakout box though.
Point taken regarding the challenge of bypassing TCS.
The original symptom was intermittent, with no obvious causes (bump, cornering, hard acceleration or braking etc) : the TCS light comes on and simultaneously, engine goes lumpy and accelerator pedal moves freely but has no effect - no throttle. Stopping and restarting either gave same symptom immediately, or after a few seconds. After a rest, car performs normally, until the next (unpredictable) episode, 1 minute to 10 hours later.

yes, two of the vacuum lines were reversed (causing no throttle in limp-home mode) and the firewall valve was faulty and replaced. Throttle body was replaced, temporarily, with another - same data was shown on the Tech2. ABS is not communicating with TCS. It looks like a recalibration is required, at the very least.
If you have any suggestions, they are gratefully received, otherwise,I may be coming to visit.
