The subject has been well covered by some of the best minds on Saab's. Just like to add two points.
1. Saab 9000's paint and antirust is excellent. I once lived in Calgary, Canada, while there, bought a 87 9000T, which had been exposed to 14 years of Canadian weather and salt. Rust issue? only two tiny bubbles on one of the doors; so tiny that I had difficulties pointing them out to a perspective buyer - he found them and bought the car.
So, rust is not necessarily a issue for 9000's in the Boston area.
2. The only way to own older Saab's is being an owner-mechanic. Otherwise, be prepared to pay $95/hr for your mechanic. Besides, you'd be paying for OEM parts cost, some of which could be more than what you would pay for the car.
