Sounds like you are concerned about damaging something while removing the driver's side inner door panel.
Since you can't open the driver's door, you will have to remove the driver's seat. You can get at the front Torx bolts by sliding the seat backwards and tilting the base of the seat backwards. Once these are out, run it forwards and get to the Torx bolts in the back.
Removing the inner door panel: There are a couple of Torx bolts inside the door handle, which are hidden by plastic plugs. Work the plugs out with a screwdriver (friction fit), then you need a long, slender Torx driver or screwdriver to get the two bolts out. Carefully pry off the mirror control cover to get at another bolt. There are two bolts along the bottom of the door, covered by small plastic caps. Then there's a screw under the red/white lens at the back of the door. Remove the plastic lens to see it. There may be another bolt that I've forgotten, but when you have them all out, the panel may be pulled away from the bottom of the door, then lifted straight up. There are about 3 snaps along the bottom of the door that hold it in. Be patient. There will be an issue with getting it clear of the left side of the dashboard.
Once inside, check out the plastic hold-downs for the door release mechanism. When these break, nothing works right. Your problem may also be in the door latch itself, since you say that turning the key makes it feel like there's nothing there. Good luck.
