The central locking unit module is fine. I reflowed the solder joints, the ones toward the connector end which were NOT on the coated end of the board. Following the Townsend central locking trouble shooting, I confirmed that the inputs from the drivers front door actuator (not a motor, like the other 3 doors) were correct. Pins1, 2, 3, jumpering the green and red leads to the black ground, worked just fine.
Tested the small pins on the drivers door lock cylinder and the tiny ~24 AWG wires coming from the tiny switch. Both have continuity when the lock cylinder is momentarily moved to LOCK and UNLOCK positions. No problems there, other than the broken ball link which I posted earlier. I'm convinced these tiny wires are inputs for the alarm system only, not central locking.
The internal locking linkage and mechanism was quite stiff, and required a liberal amount of oil to lube all the joints, slides in that internal mechanism.
The final finding was my latch mechanism (bolts to the outside of the door frame) was quite stiff, and also had the long actuation pin bent. I swapped the drivers rear door latch with the front door latch, after I lubricated it quite liberally. With that last piece, the door now opens electronically and mechanically as OEM.
Now when the key switch link actuates the dog legged ball end link, all doors open and close.
The movement of the door actuator is what fires the Central Locking unit. I confirmed those red, green and black wires in the 3 pin connector were landed directly on the central locking plug.
Now I just need a new key link cylinder for the drivers door ( and matching pass. door key, ignition lock cylinder) .
These repairs will resolve my stuck door and failure of the central locking system. It was a good learning experience and I believe I understand the central locking operations now.
