You are clearly a seasoned veteran with these 9K vehicles (I found your posts back almost 10 years in this forum). I'm certainly NO expert on these 9Ks....spent most of my time on the C900s, which will likely be the last SAABie I own, my 91 900Turbo convertible.
My years of auto wrenching & diagnostic work has taught me to believe what you see with a voltmeter. On my 91, the red, green, and black wires from the drivers door ACTUATOR (as described by Townsend) have 100% continuity with the 3 signal inputs on the central locking pins. The tiny wires coming from the momentary locking switches on the drivers door cylinder must land on my car alarm system. I suspect my 91 has an aftermarket alarm....my Haynes manual does not have a wiring schematic for the alarm. However when I am screwing with the keyed door switches, I get a loud CHIRP from my alarm, buried somewhere in the front end. Perhaps mine was dealer installed....I actually found the window sticker the other day, I suppose I could check that and see.
I can neither confirm nor deny where those inputs from the drivers door keyswitch land and connect. If I had that section of the wiring diagram, I would be 100% certain of my conclusions....but I don't have it. I just know for a fact they don't have continuity with the OPEN and CLOSE inputs on the central locking unit.
Regarding the repair to the ball ended crank, I considered that and rejected. I've been down this "Road to Perdition".....how long can this take? What you think is a 30 minute job takes 2 hours, fitting, checking, modifications....nope, I've been there done that, and in my mind it just isn't worth the effort. To each his own!
I found a seller on eBay (a Maine guy, perhaps near you?) who sold me both door keys and the ignition cylinder with KEY from a 92 9K for $55 shipped to my door. The door key cylinders are a piece of cake to change. The only one I'm concerned about is the ignition cylinder. I've got the cover off, found the release pin, but thus far it has not released. I'm sure it will come out once I find the correct orientation.
Several references by sellers on eBay state that 92 and earlier are same, and 93+ are common, but they don't interchange. Perhaps SAAB rolled out a wiring change at that time as well? I seem to recall the drivers ONLY door lock actuator was common with all C900s and the 9K perhaps through 92 as well. It states for sure on eEuroparts. The wiring diagram in my HAYNES also shows this symbolically as a SWITCH, and the other 4~5 door motors wired commonly (3 doors, hatch, gas door on later I guess). That group all show schematically in parallel with the same wires connecting them all. I will say that the drivers actuator in my 91 will indeed extend/retract when one of the other doors lock tabs is actuated, so it has the motor motion range, but perhaps not the same power? If someone had a real wiring schematic for all years, we could solve this riddle for SAAB 9K posterity......
And yes, I plan to lubricate the pass. front door internal & external mechanics before I button this car up and put it back on the road. Tom Townsend said most folks will be required to increase their fuse #16 to 20A.....most likely required due to the stiffness in these door mechanisms, and the door motor actuators required current levels to get them to actuate. Tom points out that these door motors are "pulsed" quickly, that the output power is not maintained.
