I had a heater hose leak on the CSE and all the coolant leaked out while my wife was driving on the interstate. By luck, she had to use the rest stop and pulled off. She called me and said "the car smells hot" so I had her check the level in the bottle. Zero. No water under the car. When I got there it took a coupe gallons to fill it up. :-O Long story short, I was able to get it running but I had to keep RPM's up or it would die. I had to stop and add water a few times. The HG was blown and the head was pretty warped. New valve seals and a shave later and the car was back on the road. I have low compression in cylinders 2 & 3 but it runs and drives. I think the cylinder walls or piston rings got damaged in the overheat incident. It doesn't get over 30 MPG anymore but it's still cheaper than a new car. That was maybe five years ago and a lot of miles. I'd go for it if the rest of the car is good.
