After cleaning the surfaces of the clutch slave and the edge of the release bearing it returned to staying in position. I bumped it loose once of course. With that staying where it belonged I finally noticed that I wasn't lined up in the middle of the release bearing. I took out the bumper side alignment bolt/pin and a few wiggles later it slid right into place. I must have slightly bent that alignment bolt? It's so great to finally make progress. Much thanks to everyone on this BB.
So now I've got a mystery gap on the bolt right by the exhaust. All the rest are flush. I've attached an imgur album link. I'm hoping someone can offer some insight. There's no alignment pin or spacer left behind on the old transmission or the donor car engine. All the other attach points are flush and went into place by hand so it's not bound up that I can tell. Thanks again everyone. - Owen
