...and I have been trying very hard to resolve it. I have cleaned the throttle body, AMM, and IAC valve on multiple occasions. I have tried a couple of diferent AMMs and I have set base idle and the TPS sensor correctly. I am almost certain there are no vacuum leaks (and believe me I have checked!) My car now idles great when cold, but insists on revving to just over 2,000 rpm on cold start ups. As an interesting note, if I unplug the IAC valve prior to start up, it starts as it should and then settles into base idle (which is obviously too low.) Since I don't use the AC often and I have a bypass switch for it I've been tempted to just unhook the IAC and raise base idle just to solve this. One last thing that I'm going to check is the engine temp sensor that screws into the back of the cylinder head. I'm at school right now without access to an ohm meter, but that's really my last best hope! Let me know if you want me to post the correct reading for the sensor.
I agree that this excess reving at start up is probably not great for the engine or turbo. In this colder weather my lifters clatter too on first start up, but they do it even if I disconnect the IAC valve so it starts more normally. I don't think that's a big problem and I think it's pretty common. I'm more worried about the silent damage being done.
I'll post back as soon as I test the temp sensor. If it's not that then I'm all out of ideas. Please let me know if you get things sorted out or if you have have any other ideas!
