If you deal directly with Abbott MotorSport in the UK the price for
the upgrade, including a new wastegate actuator, is £535 or about $775 USD.
The round-trip shipping is about $150. So the total is around $925.
I sent my ECU out on a Thursday via DHL and got the upgraded ECU back the
next Thursday.
Setting the wastegate was easy, Abbott recommends a preload of 3 to 4 mm
on the actuator arm. This resulted in the recommended boost pressure.
The results are great, a 20% increase in HP transforms the car. I just love
the added power. The increase in torque is really impressive in the 3000
rpm range. I definitely think it was worth the money.
If I were to do it again, I would research upgrades from Sweden. From what
I can deduce from the SpeedParts web site (http://www.Speedparts.o.se) their ECU
upgrade is about $500 USD. The advantage of that s/w is that it uses
the stock wastegate diaphragm. Hence, the base boost remains at the stock
setting. The Abbott upgrade with the new wastegate diaphragm raises the
base boost considerably. From what I understand, SpeedParts is at the
beginning stages of conducting their business overseas. Hopefully it will be soon, because they have a lot of "stuff" at good prices, even considering shipping.
By the way, SpeedParts s/w claims about the same HP gain as Abbott.
One word of caution. If you ship your ECU anywhere, wrap it in conductive,
anti-static wrap. Mark the package "Electronic media, do NOT x-ray".
Don't ask me how I know this.....
