i've an appointment to have my car looked at. but its not until december 29... and my '91 9000T may not be on the road come then. and talking to the fellows at Swedish Imports, Chapel Hill, NC, i was given the impression that my problem is nearly the most difficult issue to diagnose.
my hope is that someone will have some advice that i might use to self-diagnose whats happening.
so heres the skinny...:
1 - driving around town, power to the entire car will often blink off for less than a second. headlights just have time to dim, radio cuts out but doesn't require me to enter my lockout code, display blacks out, and motion just hickups. every time this occurs i hear a clicking noise coming from behind the dash just to the left of the glove compartment.
2 - it used to be that occasionally i would be required to enter the radio lockout code when i started the car. then it got to be a nearly regular thing. now about a third of the time i want to go somewhere i have to wait anywhere from one to twenty minutes before i'm able to turn the engine. i mean the electrical system will be completely dead. no lights, no starter motor, no radio, no acknowledgement of any sort that the key is in the ignition. except that sometimes, if i press the key into the ignition without turning it, i'll hear that clicking noise mentioned earlier, either a single click or many clicks nearly producing a steady tone.
3 - when stopped at a light, brakes engaged, signaling a turn, then either every time the signal light flashes the lighted diagram of the car will blacken, or every third blink of the light. by the way, when the signal light turns on i hear that clicking noise behind the dash, and thats always been there.
4 - for the most part the car performs well driving. it'll come down off a punch to the turbo without a problem generally, but then just clutching from second in a parking lot or hitting a small bump in the road can cause momentary power loss.
so in a search for the root of my problems, where should i start, what tools would i need? has anyone had similar experiences?
i love my saab. but coaxing and sweet words won't get her to crank, and rewarding a good day of driving won't ensure a start in the morning :)
thanks in advance
