You're experiencing base boost and the only increase you found was from increasing the base boost, however minimal. APC box fiddling won't do anything at this time, and disconnecting the battery does nothing to the pre-DI cars.

You have a leak somewhere or a problem with the wastegate. I would go ahead and pull the hose off the _w_ line on the APC solonoid (and unplug the electrical to the valve), and go for a spin. You will be alright if you into the red momuntarily. If your wastegate is in good condition, the pressure will rise FAST. If it's a little slow and peaks off mid red (for example) your wastegate is shot (or weak). How easy is it to more the wastegate actuator arm? If it doesn't require a good bit of muscle, that's your problem. The spring could be broken or the diaphram ruptured.

Check high and low for a pressure leak. A small leak will give you irratic boost and most definately more than base boost so this may not be your problem. A leaking BPV will give you higher than base boost most of the time depending on the damage.

**Most definately check and see if your knock sensor is plugged in!** It's on the block, near the oil filter,,,smallish snap connecting plug (like a fuel injector connector).

I had a 'clicking' noise under boost and it was due to pressure spitting out of the BPV (ie pressure leak) I could have sworn it was detonation but no...;-) So double check that as well,,,blow hard on the vacuum line to the bypass valve,,,,should not be able to pass any air.

GSK is right about the plugs, but it doesn't sound like that's the problem at all, not yet anyway. I'm not sure about his performance wire comment,,,i've used MSD super conductor wires for a long time and have no probs smooth boosting mid 20's (psi) ;-) another time another thread.....

good luck,,,,,,,,,,steve
