It is my understanding that there are only 2 or 3 different o2 sensors on the market. Remember, the os2 sensor is an instrument that gives a reading on the o2 amount in the exaust stream. It is up to the engine control computer to interpret the result and adjust engine parameters as needed. Should make no difference to the sensor as to number of cylinders etc.
For the record, when I needed an O2 sensor for my '88 9KT, I went to NAPA and asked for whatever Bosch 3 wire O2 sensor they could lay their hands on. Cost me about $45 and a little time to cut off the connector and splice into the wireing harness. Has worked like a champ with no problems.
Are you sure you got a good connection where you spliced into the harness? did you solder it in? I would think a bad or dirty connection could cause a lot of problems.
