Ok, decided to go with the old head as I descovered some wasp nests in the newer one in the valve housing.
I will keep the newer one and take it apart and clean it properly for the future. Thanks for the help everyone who submitted.
I have the head back on and have gone to re attach the cam-sprocket, but it won't go on.
The timing marks on the fly-wheele and distributor now don't line up at the same point as the sprocket wants to go back on. Ie, the holes on the sproket don't apear to line up with the holes in the cam shaft, when the engine is at TDC.
Is it possible the sprocket sliped a tooth? I don't see how, it has been on the holding bracket the entire time (what a great idea that bracket is, why did they not keep it?). I changed one other b-motor head and did not have this trouble, it just bolted back on.
It is just possible the chain was already out of alignment before the job started, as the car ran poorly when I got it and I have been fixing it since.
Is there a way of adjusting the chain back without removing the engine? I really don't have time to be pulling the engine out any time soon.
Any help would be apriciated.
- Thanks, Ben.
