B engine wastegate issue

HI all,
I own a 79 900 turbo. I know this isnt the 900 board but i figure this is the place for B engine advice. Anyway i just installed a performance exhaust system on my car. I replaced the old transverse muffler with a straight through Borla and took off the catalytic converter(no inspections in TN). Well the first day i took the car out after installing i noticed ahuge difference in turbo lag and amount of boost i was producing (the needle was almost hitting the red). The car has much more low end. So i was very pleased but today when i drove it the wastegate was actuating every time i went full throttle and the turbo spooled up. I can only recall one time that i have ever seen the thing come on before changing the exhaust. Well as you all know the wastegate constantly popping on and off is pretty annoying and takes the fun out of giving the car what for. First question: is it safe to adjust the wastegate a little to where it doesnt come on as much....I know these B heads have a tendency to crack under additional boost. I would like to know what is the safe boost limit for the head. Second: Has anyone else seen a large increase in boost with a new exhaust on a B turbo. I was just surprised that one mod (it is the only thing i have done performance wise) would allow that turbo to make that much more boost. Thanks in advance for any help. these Bulletins are priceless!
