You’re right about the engine numbers. I was aware of their meanings as I have a copy of the original Saab-Scania factory manual of the early 99 (1969-1974).
I replaced the Zenith Stromberg 175CD-2S with a SU HIF44 that fits the same intake manifold and is more user friendly, has better parts availability and is a better carburettor throughout. I got to know them on several other classic cars I owned the last 28 years. Never owned a fuel injected car though, probably because I prefer cars of the late 40s and 50s (their looks that is...). When I’m honest I must admit I find the exterior of the 99 a bit too modern to my taste. Yet I would like to drop a T16V in there some time, but my head starts hurting when I think about the wiring etc., involved with a conversion to fuel injection.
