What condition is the B engine in now? The bottom end goes forever.
Cross that H engine bridge only if necessary.
For 1979, I think you can still get a water pump rebuild kit - get that right away!
For a 1976 daily driver, here's what I did:
1) 75-80 Saab Orange Factory Manual (books4cars.com)
2) Gas shocks - Bilstein preferred. May be NLA, so look for old stock or Koni. (KYB is still available, not as bad as everyone says they are)
3) PBR Metal Master brake pads (Or the PBR Ultimate Pads)
4) 900 front hubs with vented Brembo rotors from a 1986-1987 turbo.
4) Hella H4 headlight conversion (Summit Racing)
5) Tachometer
6) Air Conditioning - depends on your climate but I use mine all the time
7) MSS Header
8) Rebuilt MSS head - oversize valves and dual valve springs
9) Synthetic Oil and Mann Filter
10) Synthetic oil for the transmission (Redline lightweight gear oil for my 1976)
11) Kingsborne Plug Wires (http://www.importpartsspec.com)
12) NGK BP7ES plugs
13) 185/65/15 tires
14) LeCarra leather steering wheel (EMS wheel)
With these things, the 99 is transformed into a more modern car. I can hang with most vehicles, but it still is a little under-powered, especially compared to my 9000 CSE turbo. But it is more fun to drive for sure!
