I drive daily an M76 CombiCoupe (Wagonback), roughly 20 miles roundtrip city/freeway, with B engine, 4 speed, twin carburettor (2-carbed not delivered in USA if i am not mistaken).
Sweet car (same color as LJB's m76 99 notch), and it took me on a few thousand miles trip to Int'nal Saab Festival last summer in Sweden w/o problems, and just last few weeks up and down St Petersburg (Russia, not FL) - except for the big pothole I encountered .. :mad face:. Except for the last, the car does a great job in reliably running, cold start at -18 Celsius is even no hassle.
As for the time being I drive a 74 carburetted 99 with automatic gears (3sp). Drives much nicer than I ever imagined.
The latter b-engines are rock solid, and as long as your waterpump keeps working, there is no problem, nor other parts will cause a real problem. (Head)Gasket sets are so far easily available through ebay if your local can't get them. Of course h-engines have their pro's, but why go through the fuzz as long as it is not necessary? The 4sp manual is pretty good for highway driving up to 70mph. You actually have a first gear, as opposed to the 5sp box, and the 2nd and 3rd are also nice long.
good luck, and happy commuting!
Jelger
