..just for kicks. I was impressed with both. The WRX is a great car for the money. However, the criticisms I've read here are dead on - there is absolutely no power below 3000 rpm (and I mean none, zero, zip - you floor it and then start to wonder if the throttle's broken), it's got a surprising amount of body roll, the engine has that cheap, tinny sound to it, the transmission is miserable, and the interior is cheapo. Still, it's very stable in the corners despite the body roll, and has some serious kick once the turbo gets going. Again, for the price, it's great - I would have loved a car like this when I was younger.
The S2000 I would love to have now. I had always hated the very idea of a Honda, but this car is just a joy to drive. Forget what anyone says about no low end torque - you'll never notice. Once you feel and hear a 2-liter engine at 9000 rpm, you're hooked. These are F1 noises here (well, close maybe). (Should have heard the salesman - "a little slower through this curve...right...little slower...no...slower...SLOWER" hehe) The cockpit fit me like a glove, and the seating position was great. The gearbox was precise, and the throws were tight and effortless. The dash layout is probably the worst I've ever seen, and I think the car's nose looks kind of Mitsubishi-like, but that's about the only bad things I can think of. (Besides the fact that the salesman told me they charge $5k over sticker - silly me thought it worked the other way around.) If I had the money, though, I might have bitten anyway - I felt like a little kid after the test drive.
So now I can't wait for a Saab 2-seater.
