If memory serves the Saab 99 that essentially put Saab on the map had horrific 'lag' but was an absolute blast to drive because of it.. not inspite of it.. "lag' is Fun! The WRX has been road tested at 5.2 secs to 60.. not too shabby considering North Americans only get the 227hp car as opposed to the 275hp unit elsewhere.. can you say "chip it"?
But when I drove one (sister owns a Subaru dealership) the car did appear cheap, too cheap actually, but it was serious fun to drive, made my Saab feel like "my father's Olds" to paraphrase, luxo & powerfull but not nearly as invigorating. I think I'm buying one.. who cares how 'cheap' the interior is.. I have a living room at home ;0)
Interestingly the S2000 has been price reduced by $5k in my part of the world (pacific northwest) your salesguy is a sneaky rascal.
