I have owned both a Subaru -- the Impreza Outback Sport, and a Honda -- Del Sol.
My Subaru, which was a previous generation model without a turbo, was a decent car but lacked power. It did have low end torque, however. If Subaru merely hung a turbo on that engine, 2.2 liters, or their 2.5 liter engine, it would have been a better fit for our driving conditions. I am surprised that you mentioned the WRX exhibits so much body roll, since my little wagon didn't roll too much.
My Del Sol was a VTEC with 160 hp. It's wasn't in the same league as the S2000, but it did rev to 8000 rpm and made great sounds. I wish that I had kept it, but I love the Saab 9-3. Of course, an S2000 as a third car in the family would be wonderful if I could afford it.
