Ray: It sounds like a combination of the three statements you made. I have a '00 9-3 SE with 5 speed and sport exhaust. I do not find the drivetrain at all noisy, and certainly no grinding noises. Coming out of a corner, I could spin a front wheel. Driving a turbo front drive takes a bit of getting used to, but you would be surprised what you can get out of it once you have familiarized yourself with the setup (judicious throttle use in 1st and 2nd as the turbo spools up etc).
All in all, they are different cars, and arguably not for everyone, but I find the more I drive mine the more I come to appreciate its nuances and engineering.
Fun factor should be defined by you, so good luck with whatever you end up getting. Let us know what you decide. Erik
