looks like the torque curve on this car; as more than one person on this thread has pointed out, learning to drive a Saab well is part of the fun of driving a Saab.
I contend that, assuming equally interested and intelligent drivers, a Saab 9-3 and its driver can beat an equivalent 3 series (325 or 330: S or SE) and its driver over twisty mountain roads after three months of ownership, despite the fact that the BMW driver was probably able to handily beat the Saab driver on the same course of day one of ownership.
Bottom line; 9-3 is a powerful and useful tool once you master it.
The main difference b/w the marques, is, in my estimation, that BMW perfectly executes the popular conception of what a sports sedan should be, while Saab offers a provocative and insightful challenge to the popular sport sedan ideal.
Decide whether you prefer a car best described as:
1) Popular conception!!!
or
2) Popular conception???
and let that decision inform your purchase. Just my 2c.
