The clutch cable should have been replaced when you got your new clutch. In other words you shouldn't use an old cable with a new clutch. The self adjuster on the old cable has been adjusting (shortening) to compensate for the wear in the old clutch. When the clutch is replaced it requires the cable to be longer (since there is no disc wear) using an old cable will load up the throwout bearing and cause premature wear.
