The problem with the internet info age and the advent of problem solving BB's, is they create service hypochodriacs. Too much info about other folks problems causes a wave of concern that tinges otherwise reliable products. It makes folks paranoid.
My point was a turbo or sludge are not small repairs, but that the number of cars affected is small.
I'm sure there were a few (just like with a 9-5, only a very, very small number) 9000's that sludged and need turbos. Many folks on the 9-5 BB have had better experiences than you had with your 9000, but that's not a "problem" to be posted on the BB, though some (few) folks do share their positive experiences.
Any statistacal analysis of all cars from model years 96-98 until the present shows a dramatic improvement in quality. The worst cars today are better than the best cars from the early 90's. Statistically 9-5 repair wise are excellent, endorsed by consumer magazines for their reliability, as well as safety. The likelyhood of major or minor probems is significantly reduced with a 9-5, but that doesn't mean stuff doesn't happen and when it does happen you'll read about it here. And you'll read if from eloquent, passionate, intelligent folks, in great detail and indignity.
My theory is that it was GM's $750,000,000.00 spent remodeling the Trollhattan plant and GM's new quality procedures that finally produced a comparitively reliable Saab. A good spin on the GM influence.
