I realize this may have been tried before and maybe it still isn't that successful....is the Astra or Aura selling that well? I don't think they are...which is very sad, actually.
BUT, there are some excellent products that I think America might like. The Zafira, the new Vectra (Insignia), the Astra CC. I think the same of Ford when I see the Mondeo, S-Max, and the European Focus.
Focus the marketing on high quality, Euro beating design, high efficiency (I'm sorry, 20mpg highway being marketed as green is crap), and start doing some demographic testing on what people want. I think it will be the only way to win against the likes of the Japanese and even the German manufacturers. Young drivers want BMW 3 series like cars, they don't want Ford Taurus's or Pontiac G6's. BMW just brought in the 335d...maybe GM should think about clean diesel here too....the 180hp 1.9 TTiD in the Euro Saab 9-3 would be a great option.
Why Americans want to drive Buick Lucernes, Lincoln MKX's and other boats like that is still beyond me. I'd rather drive real European cars, like a diesel Peugeot 407, Passat 2.0T or TDI, 2 liter turbo Saab, etc.
Just my very Euro-car loving biased $0.02 (or 1.6 euro cents at the current exchange rate!).
