The ramming vehicle in the NCAP car-to-car side impact test probably weighs less than even the mini. It's only a metal frame, with none of the heavy components found in a typical car, such as engine, transmission, or even body work. The 500mm uniform honeycomb alloy impact absorbing crumple zone mounted to the front probably is more crumple zone than can be found on the front end of a real life vehicle. The riding height of the ram is very low. IMHO, low even for American car standards, never mind SUV's or crossovers.

The ram kept going after impact for a very simple reason: the mini was previous stationary, so the combined mass of the mini and the ram had to keep moving in the previous movement direction of the ram simply to maintain momentum conservation.

It is indeed immoral to drive a car that count on better chance of survival at someone else' expense. The Smart car is such an example as it actually counts on eating into someone else' crumple zone because it does not bring enough of its own. I also take a rather dim view of carmakers that boast handling prowess as some kind of "active safety" when the cars are mostly sold in markets that are known for congested traffic. Sudden moves into neighboring lanes in traffic is actually far more dangerous to to other drivers (and to oneself) than sitting tight and letting the crumple zones and airbags take it.
