Pretty much my setup and experience (except for the folding-under issue). I haven't put my solar cover on the pool in probably 3 years. I just don't think it makes that much of a difference for all the hassle of rolling and unrolling and moving and storing the darn thing.
I installed roll-out solar panels on my flat roof adjacent to the pool and plumbed them in with my filter. I had to get a bigger pump to get the water to the roof, but the whole setup is out-of-sight, hassle-free and works great, plus I don't pay for fuel for the regular pool heater. I also plumbed in a shower head on the return pipe down from the roof panels--nice toasty rinse off. :-)
