post-facto rejigging of portfolio

The same Samsung also lost billions investing into memory chip fabs and car making. Also, although Samsung and LG have large market share, it's not clear how profitable they are in the sector; certainly have much profit margin than Apple. Samsung was subsidized by the Korean government to take over market share for silicon fabs in the past two decades, and it is still a money losing operation. The latest Samsung accounting report is heavily padded by the sale of the hard drive division to Seagate. The Korean companies certainly have a track record of trying to make up for losses with higher volume. LOL. The Korean people are ripped off to pay those government subsidy bills. The net effect is Koreans being taxed to pay for give-away cars and phones to American consumers.

Post-facto rejigging of portflio in order to show better portfolio return is a common practice among mutual fund families. If you start two funds each buying one stock; after a year, if one loses 50% and the other gaining 50%, you shut down the loser and fold it into the winner at current value. Voila! the average return (of remaining members of the fund family) becomes +50%! even though there has been no net gain whatsoever if calculation is done based on original investment into both funds.
