Alfa and the Chrysler-backed ARDONA (Alfa Distributors of North America) succeeded in killing the last effort. What will they do differently this time ? I had a '91 164 base and 3 various Spiders from 91 through 99. I currently have a '91 164S (heavily modified) and my fiance Julie has a '87 Milano Silver (only mod is Alfa OEM Speedline 156 wheels). We're excited about Alfa's return, yet are worried about the ability of both Alfa and GM to properly price and market whatever car(s) come to the US. I'm hearing next gen Spider first (not a bad idea considering the roadster craze, but it better be FAST and a real beauty of a design). I myself am more excited to see the successor to the 156 sedan (I think the 166 or its successor is too big, I think Alfa should bring a smaller nimble and powerful sport sedan ala the 156 with the 3.0L V6). I have sat in a 156 in Madrid but not driven one, I'm told they are wonderful cars (hell, to win Euro car of the year in 98 says a lot about the 156 and the 147 just got '01 Euro car of the year). There's a lot of competition in Europe so these awards are not shabby. Hopefully Alfa and GM will do it right, price whatever cars they bring competitively, make them serious performers, and market them appropriately against the competition and market them heavily. Alfa makes great vehicles, I just don't know how well this will succeed. Selling them in Cadillac showrooms is a BAD idea in my humble opinion, perhaps as an alternative high-end marque at Saab dealers makes more sense...we shall see..... QUORE SPORTIVO...... David
