Alfa definitely returning, possibly as early as 2002 as '03 models... that sounds very quick, also questioned in some areas including other posts on this board... I understand the first models will be the next Coupe/spyder... followed at an as yet undetermined later date by the 156 replacement (maybe) and the 166 (or 166 replacement?)(definitely). The 166 is a very new model in a line that usually goes 10 years between total redesigns, so it would have to be the current model, possibly after it's next facelift. Based on the powertrains available in Europe, I'm guessing we would get the 166 with a 3.0 V6 in probably a couple of different stages of tune... There has always been a 2.0 turbo 164 in Europe, but it was never even sold in the UK, so it was Continental Europe only... I don't know if the 166 is available with a turbo. The 156 replacement would, I bet, come here only with the 2.5 V6... There are also 4WD models in Europe, but I would not hold my breath for those coming here. The upside is Alfa quality is light years ahead of where it was in the '80's or even early '90's, and I think most 164s are vastly better than earlier Alfas. The downside is I have no faith in GM to market these cars remotely properly, (I've heard about sharing Cadillac dealerships, too) and I think there will be too much emphasis on trying to recreate the buzz that surrounded 'The Graduate' and not enough on the what the cars can do in the 21st century... GM has always been careful how much it tells America about how much of SAAB it owns, so it will be interesting to see how it promotes it's interest in Alfa... Most Americans don't know the 900/9-3 shares it's platform with a European Opel; I bet even fewer know that that same platform is also shared with a Saturn! Remember Maserati is also coming back, now on hold so Alfa and Maserati can be launched simultaneously... Selling Alfas out of existing SAAB dealerships makes sense to me, and selling Maseratis from a select few of those also seems to...
