I think there are quite a few personal factors other than the car make a person sells. I've certainly had varying results in different countries or dealers for the same car make.
First of all, apparently dealers trust customers in Denmark but not in Luxembourg. I.e. in Denmark you test drive on your own (one Citroën dealer a couple of years ago just gave me the keys to a car without even asking for a copy of my license), in Luxembourg the dealer insists on going with you.
In Denmark I've known a polite BMW dealer - although he made me understand that it was a great privilege to be allowed to test drive one of their cars ... and he offered me a terrible price for my old car!
Here in Luxembourg there are two Saab dealers - one close to where I live and one about 12 miles away. The former couldn't be bothered to even talk to me, and when I came to him he started smoking right in my face and eventually gave me a brochure for last year's model (the one without the Aero - very clever since that was the model I was interested in!).
So, of course I went to the other dealer who was very helpful and bought my Aero there!
I wonder if these dealers know how much business they lose with that kind of behaviour. If the first guy had been polite and helpful I would have preferred the closer dealer. If they had both been arseholes I would probably be driving a BMW/Audi/Volvo instead (as it happens the Volvo dealers here are like the BMW dealers Coolknight described...).
HEY, DEALERS! ARE YOU READING THIS???
Regards,
Caspar
