i see...kind of.
here is what i am doing.
the ecu i am using has the ability to trim maximum boost. to do so, i can use one of the auxiliary inputs from the ecu. this input pulls to ground, i do not know the draw. so, i need to supply 5v to a pot that can be adjusted to alter the reference voltage into the input line.
in the ecu software, i have a spread sheet. the horizontal cells in the first row are the voltage "seen" by the auxiliary input. the second row is a corresponding adjustment to maximum boost up to +/- 50%. the first row voltage is from 0 to 5v. so, i have everything hardwired correctly, but now need to fill in the table. i need to have an idea of where i will be in the spreadsheet when the pot is adjusted to its minimum (or the maximum resistance, or the lowest voltage). i also need to get an idea of where i will be at the maximum end when the pot is turned all the way to max, resulting in the greatest signal voltage to the ecu. make sense? i guess if i have a 5v signal and the resistance is at its max, then is the lowest voltage the ecu sees 0 volts? .35 volts? etc? the table is set up so i do not need to use the entire table. i just need to know what portion of the table i am working in.
fwiw, the ecu manufacturer said any pot can be used, but recommended a 5 ohm one. mine is 25 ohm so i just need to calibrate the table as such.
thanks for the help so far.
