So somewhere (from the ECU maybe?) you have a source of 5 volts? And you need to vary it from 0 to 5 volts? Did the Mfgr. say how to wire the pot or resistor? To drop 5 volts across a 5 ohm resitor would require a current draw of 1 amp, and the resistor would have to disipate (be rated at) 5 watts. To drop 5 volts across a 25 ohm resistance would require a current draw of .2 amps, and would need to disipate 1 watt of energy.
