The closer I get to trading the Viggen (wish I had garage space and $$$ to keep 2 cars at my new loft) the more attention I pay to your posts as I really respect your knowledge and opinions. Yeah, I've about convinced myself that a BMW is not for me. While it might really be the best handling sport sedan out there, for the average person it represents gaudy status symbol and really that's not me, and Atlanta is frankly DROWNING in BMWs. Of course I may be deluding myself that the Viggen doesn't say the same thing but I don't think it does since frankly not that many people even know what it is unless they are enthusiasts or SAAB-o-philes.
At any rate I need to start driving all the cars mentioned and that won't happen until after I get moved, and I suspect that one test drive in a 9-5 Aero will reveal that within the SAAB fold, it's really the SAAB for me - giving up very little in performance, MPG, uniqueness but gaining greatly in the refinement, handling and, most importantly to me coming from a Viggen, ride comfort. If buying new I probably won't buy a new 9-5 as I'd rather have the 9-3SS in the newer configuration since I'd still own a 9-5 when the redesign occurs. I think that for me, and because I want warranty for as long as possible, a low mileage 2003 9-5 Aero will be the ticket, paid in trade and cash so that it's MINE. I wouldn't mind considering a 2002 9-5 Aero but I think most of those will have 3 years on the clock and will result in about a 3 year warranty period, but then again the price may be right if any are available when I'm ready to move. Thus far they are scarce nationwide and nonexistent at Atlanta dealers.
What is your opinion? Will trading the Viggen with 7-8K left on the warranty at a SAAB dealer be to my benefit over keeping it for a few more months and likely trading it out of warranty? I assume so since the dealer can sell the car more easily with some factory warranty even if it's got too many miles for CPO.
As always thanks for sharing your expertise with us all,
John
