I think a Legacy GT Wagon looks spectacular and drives even better.
The car is a little down on content (no HID's, telescoping wheel, no steering-wheel fingertip radio or cruise buttons, no folding center armrest in the backseat), but for the money, the performance the car offers is stunning. I was about an inch from getting one but the seats just ddn't fit my 6'6" frame right. I have never driven a car that size that feels as quick, nimble and tossable. Sitting in the car and driving it for the first time on a test rive it just felt right from day 1 -- familiar, easy, etc. I took any corner with more speed than I dared with my Viggen and just powered right out of it -- AWD, combined with grippy all season tires and rally-bred suspension is a great thing.
Inside, materials quality is very very good (and lightyears ahead of Subaru's past offerings), with tasteful metallic trim and quality switchgear. The car rides like a dream and is very quiet and comfortable even under full throttle.
Yet the car retains some Subaru funkiness for the displaced Saab fan. With the windows down you can hear the familiar boxer engine thrum and some nice rally-style driveline whine, and at idle there's an occasional lumpiness that reminds you of the boxer engine up front.
If I only fit in the car, it would have been a hands down winner in my search. As it was, I went with the pricier, better equipped, stronger, more comfortable but slightly less nimble and slightly-more-questionable-reliability Volvo V70R.
A 9-5 Aero wagon would also be a great pick, and CPO would let you get one with all the goodies but without the massive depreciation whack.
When my wife and I have kids and she is forced to ditch the Beetle convertible, the Legacy GT wagon will be high on our list.
