not least because of the drive down and back, punctuated by food and booze (I was a passenger, of course!) such as only the cheese-eating surrender-monkeys can provide. We got in a coupe of circuits before the main event. They have modified the circuit to make it safer but less interesting, with wide run-off areas in multi-coloured tarmac and some of the wiewing areas have been levelled which made the cars harder to see from a crowd of people, and they have these fences everywhere which is bad for photography. Overall, though, a great event and there was even a lone Saab 93 circulating rather slowly, sounding like canvas being torn into strips. The highlights for me were the "knobbly" Lister-Jaguars, the Lolas, Chevrons and of course the GT40s and Porsches. Seeing that lot descend on Indianapolis and Arnage at 3 in the morning is really something.
However, one friend turned his BMW 328 into a pretzel by hitting the scenery at night, which will be expensive for him, and after the event I ended Sunday night with a dislocated finger and a cracked rib after slipping, ingloriously, in the bath while taking a shower. Blame it on the Calvados. The drive back in the Ace with zilch suspension was therefore unpleasant but preferable, we decided, to the emergency room in Alencon on Bastille Day.
I like your rationale for the tinting - nice try but no cigar!
