From my own experience I say tinted windows are a valued addition to the vehicle. My first car many years ago (15 years ago) had tinted windows and it was definately hard to see out of them at night.
But more recently I had my Volvo wagon tinted (after owning it 2 days) and it was the best thing I could have done to it. Tint has come a long way over the years.
There were 2 differnt kinds where I went; one metallic and one carbon base. One of them inhibits nav or satillite radio...which is the one I chose.
I got samples of each placed on my window and chose one based on color matching to the gray leather interior.
I only went 35% on the front two windows (legal limit) and 18% on the rest. And I wish I listened to the guys working at the shop who wanted me to go 15%. Wagons can go as low % as they wish... at least in Oregon. But my point is the night vision is excellent. Could have gone darker no problem.
My main reason for getting the tint was protecting my valuables, protecting my dog (sometimes sits in the car), and protecting my leather. Add the winshield shades and its the best you can do to protect everything.
Just the other day I was hit with a direct shot of UV on my arms that I could feel, and rolled up the window and all was good. Instant shade.
