Water jacket is only wrapped around the turbo housing. What cools the turbo bearing directly, the hottest and most critical part at close to 1000 degrees, is still oil. There is no chance whatsoever water can cool that kind of temperature application directly; water would become super-heated steam at that temperature.
The reason why I described the various articles as "prior (expert) opinions" is because they do not all agree with each other. The issue is inherently complex. Andrews' experimentation showed that even a car that had regular full synthetic oil change still had "coffee grinds" at the debris collection plate (the removable plate) on the modified oil pan, after the car had oil pan drop, cleaning, fresh oil change and 3000-5000 miles or so of driving. That's the finding that makes me especially concerned and looking for ways to "bathe" the oil pickup screen.
I'm thinking of using ultrasonic mechanical vibration to provide the "physical" part of the washing-in-sittu. I'm looking for the chemical agent that would loose up and dissolve the carbon particles stuck in the screen and accumulate at the bottom of the pan.
