If equally skilled drivers (or drivers that knew how to extract maximum potential) were behind the wheel of both cars (stock), I'm pretty confident the S2K would come out on top in straight line performance and especially at the track/autox where it was designed to be at home on the curves - there are no luxuries (unlike the SAAB) and its quite literally a no-frills sports machine - a driver's car not a family sedan/coupe/hatch. Maybe in the passing ranges, it would be a bit closer but I don't think they can overtake the S simply because the 0-60 and the 1/4 mile times are a whole second faster (5.2/13.8 for the S). I think if they removed the power limiter in first and second on the SAABS, it may be a lot closer. The hp figures are close albeit a disparity in torque figures is present, the higher redline would act as a multiplier as with the tighter gearing that allows the car to always stay in VTEC. All of the money went into designing the powertrain and the suspension including the rigid high X-frame. Now in the real world on the streets, the results can be different since not everyone can drive efficiently and with the S2K, it's a real chore to find the right combination of revs and clutch slips to get a good launch - very easy to bog (if you haven't noticed torque isn't a very strong presence down low LOL) or just not get traction. I don't know how the Viggen or the Aero would fare in the top end but the S2K pulls hard in triple digits as well. However, my friend who owns a MY 99 9-3 and frequents this board tells me that a new Viggen (with more power and a more rigid platform) is due in a year or two and that may very well be a different story.
