But people have associated "1999 -> first year -> problems." Because in the US, '99 was the first model year of the 9-5. That the 9-5 was out in Europe for MY98 is irrelevant to us. You are arguing semantics.
Most of the "problem issues" on the board refer to cars here in the US and the are all '99 models. No one in the US has a '98 model year 9-5 (except maybe SCUSA as imported, corporate cars). And if you look at the 9-5 TSBs listed at Townsend Imports website, a majority are for the '99 9-5, not the 2000 or 2001, etc models. (granted, there are a few '98 TSBs interspersed in there, but since noone in the US has a '98 9-5, it's irrelevant).
