I can only address #3. The VW's are nice, but suffer from more turbo lag than the Saab, and I found the Jetta to be too small. As to Volvo, I traded an 855 (wagon)for the Saab, both purchased used (Volvo Certified-joke). Swedish cars take a fairly large depreciation hit, so to me it makes sense to avoid new. Volvo was truly a maintenance headache. Auto trans failed at 90K, $3K repair. Pieces of the interior trim constantly came loose, rode hard, ponderous handling, had that Volvo safety feature "feels like it's going faster than it really is", the antithesis of most modern automobiles. Can't speak for long-term reliability yet, but the Saab is none of those other things. Quick, agile, deceptively fast. Just my opinion.
