I looked at the usual suspects, and leased the 9-5 Linear Wagon which I love. I had the 99 9-5 base wagon before which had a very high purchase option, so I leased a new one. The rear seats in the Passat wagon were not comfortable, and it seemed slightly smaller. It also had a "boxy" feel to it when I test drove one - much like the Volvo. The Jetta is a small wagon, too small for me! I think I read somewhere that the Jetta wagons are acutally built in Germany and have fewer problems than the sedans, which are assembled in Mexico. The Linear goes fast quickly, handles well, is safe, and has a great sound system. Get the premium package with the upgraded sound. The lease deal available now is fantastic, even if you want to buy, it makes sense to lease and then purchase at the end. If you think your income will go up in 3-4 years, that may make the most sense. Check out the Intellichoice analysis of the lease, and then negotiate like hell with the dealer - you'll do even better! Happy driving!
